he College’s Academic Program is divided into two general sections: Liberal Arts and Fine Arts. With these two disciplines, the College seeks to train students in the technical skills required to create their art, while providing them with a rigorous education in the art of thinking. The spiritual and moral formation of students is developed through daily spiritual exercises, both personal and collective.
Academic Calendar
Living Water College has a unique academic calendar to suit its program. Rather than two semesters, the year is divided into three terms, going right through the summer with a long break during the coldest part of winter. This is to take advantage of the beauty of nature and mild climate during the summer months, and also to enable the program to follow the seasons, so that students can assimilate the cycles of nature with their studies. First Term Beginning of February to end of April Second Term Beginning of May to second week of August Third Term Third week of August to end of November

The good-byes have been said and the doors closed on another successful summer program here at the college, but the halls still smell of pigment and the memories are many, keen and enjoyable. The program ended Friday, July 30th, with a religious blessing of the icons in the beautiful countryside of the college. Although some were not complete, the images were already profoundly intricate and meaningful, not only to the students but also to the supporters who came to view them. As with last year’s class, the members of the class of 2010 expressed small and great changes within themselves and spoke to the importance of the elements of the program: art, faith, reason and community. Please enjoy the photos of their experience and check back for news of next year’s programs.

The Program
The Epiphanies of Beauty Iconography Program is a two-week study in in the art of Iconography. During the program, each student will write an icon of The Mother of God of Vladimir using the traditional techniques of painting in egg tempera and classic gilding. The intention of the program is to give students the knowledge, skills, and love of the icon to continue in the practice of iconography after completing the course.
The liturgy of the hours will be prayed daily, along with study of the theological and historical roots of iconography. Eight hours will be spent each day in the technical aspects of iconography.
The instructor, Frank C. Turner, is a professional artist in the areas of iconography, theatre, and film making. An iconographer for 19 years, Mr. Turner has studied under Vladislav Andreyev, a contemporary master iconographer, and Father Gianluca Busi of Bologna. He has completed 50 icons in the Byzantine tradition for individuals and for churches. Frank is a founding member of Epiphany Sacred Arts Guild and has served as its president for seven years.
Faith will permeate all aspects of the program, and each student will be encouraged to integrate personal faith with dynamic art and challenging thought. To this end, non-Catholic Christians will feel welcome and supported in their faith. Daily morning and evening prayer and weekly prayer and praise will nurture all students, and Catholic students will enter into full expression of their faith with daily Mass and occasion for Reconciliation.
Working with other students and professionals in a community of faith is a highlight of the summer program, and strong life-long relationships will begin here.

Living Water College of the Arts announces its second annual Summer Shakespeare Program, commencing July 5, 2010:
Summer Shakespeare Program 2010 The Mind & Faith of William Shakespeare
The Summer Shakespeare Program is a six-week intensive program focusing on the work of William Shakespeare. The program is an extract of our full curriculum, containing artistic training, academic study through socratic dialogue, and daily prayer.
Students will explore classical sources on comedy and tragedy, plays by Shakespeare, and commentaries that illustrate the Bard's techniques and his faith. Participants will gain a rich appreciation of the classical education and devout faith that inspired and motivated William Shakespeare.
Faith will permeate all aspects of the artistic and academic program, and each student will be encouraged to integrate personal faith with dynamic art and challenging thought. To this end, non-Catholic Christians will feel welcome and supported in their faith. Daily morning and evening prayer along with bi-weekly evenings of prayer and praise will nurture all students, and Catholic students will enter into full expression of their faith in daily Mass and occasion for Reconciliation.
Some brief thoughts about the program from our recent alumni.
Fine Arts training will integrate with the classical studies, providing a wealth of acting techniques demanded of the Shakespearean actor. The production of the Merchant of Venice will provide a practical means by which students will refine skills of interpretation and performance.
Why Shakespeare?
We chose to focus on Shakespeare's works because his artistic mastery came from his faith and richly developed mind. He understood the natural integration of spirituality, philosophy and art, and in an oppressed society where many of his peers were put to death for expressing truth, Shakespeare witnessed to his faith by means of the intelligent use of his incredible artistic talent. This same "counter-cultural" wisdom is needed today.
Our recent alumni share some of their thoughts and experiences from the 2009 summer program.

Frank C. Turner, Director of Fine Arts, will give students the skills they need to accurately interpret and express the art of William Shakespeare. Intensive practical study of Movement, Staging, Vocal Production, Characterization and Script Analysis will assist students in bringing to life the characters of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice. The troupe will then round out their experience with public performances of the play.
Lady Clare Asquith, Author of Shadowplay: The Hidden Beliefs and Coded Politics of William Shakespeare, although unable to join us in person, will connect with us from England through live online lectures to present her extensive research. Her research, combined with the world-renowned works of Father Peter Milward and Joseph Pearce, demonstrates the consistent Catholic message in the rich symbolism of Shakespeare's works.
JP Fournier, Maître d’Armes for the Fight Directors of Canada, will tutor fight training and stage weapon use to give students the experience necessary to perform well in a variety of dramatic works.
Deacon Kenneth Noster, Actor and Director, will assist Frank Turner in actor training and the direction of Merchant of Venice.
Eva Miller, Choreographer and Actor, will direct students in the refinement of their movement skills and stage presence.
